Gems Akademia International School,

The word Akademia has its origins in ancient Greek mythology, with a long and illustrious history. The Akademia contained a sacred grove of olive trees, dedicated to Athena (the Greek Goddess of wisdom and skills), outside the city walls of ancient Athens. The site of the Akademia was considered holy by Athena and sheltered her religious cult. Centuries later, Plato, the classical Greek philosopher, founded a school by the name Akademia, where Aristotle studied for twenty years. The Gems Akademia International School Logo exemplifies the School’s vision, mission and motto. It reiterates our belief that every child is different, and deserves a supportive environment where he/she can grow into a well-rounded individual. The logo’s design is inspired by that of a ‘prism’, a transparent optical element with flat, polished surfaces, used to refract or split light. In a prism, a ray of white light entering from one side is broken up into its constituent spectrum of colours, before exiting the prism from another side. If light inside the prism hits one of the surfaces at a steep angle, all the light is reflected internally, giving the prism a mirror-like quality. Gems Akademia International School will act as a prism and mirror for its students. On the surface, every child entering the School might appear similar, but our focus will be on nurturing the uniqueness of every individual, on seeking out their constituent colours. Students will be encouraged to discover different aspects of their own personalities – strengths, talents, interests and passion – all the things that come together to define their individuality. Every child will leave School having explored the various facets of his/her inner potential to the fullest.
